"Some of my paintings come out of the air, some from digital photos I have taken for reference, and some from life. They need to be thought out, -color, composition, etc. Traditionally artists have first done thumbnail sketches then a pencil or charcoal, next a watercolor, THEN on to the main event."

Rita Thompson • Visual Artist

Rita studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She is active in the local and Boston art scenes and has conducted painting classes and workshops. Favorite subjects have been city
dwellings and their interiors. At the present time she is working with acrylics in her studio at the Chelmsford Center for the Arts creating abstract paintings with the emphasis on color and texture.  She has previously been a member the BVAU (Boston Visual Artists’ Union) and WEB (Women Exhibiting in Boston). Her work was shown with these organizations, at Boston Art in the Park, as well as many places in Chelmsford and surrounding areas.
Paintings in the following juried shows;
The Frances N. Roddy Open Competition at the Concord Art Association,
Brush Gallery, Whistler House Museum, and the Arts League of Lowell.
Most recently three of her paintings were selected to be included in ‘Her Art: A Celebration of (10) Women Artists in Boston’. The Museum Council of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston chose
one of her paintings to be included in their June fundraiser, ‘The Summer Party’
